ANNOUNCING A YEAR OF FAVOR:
The Spirituality of Luke’s Gospel

Tuesdays, January 29 and February 5, 2013; WHITE Fee: $25 per session;
5:30pm Supper WHITE 6:15pm-7:45pm Presentation
Registration appreciated by January 22.

It is a happy coincidence that the tenth anniversary of the Lumen Center occurs during the year in which we read Luke's Gospel at the Sunday Liturgy. In Luke's account, Jesus began his ministry in the synagogue at Nazareth, where he preached his inaugural sermon. He choses as his text the prophet Isaiah's commission as the anointed of the Lord, and to announce a year of favor ("a fitting anniversary") from the Lord. This commission provides both the agenda for Jesus' ministry and the pattern for Christian discipleship. During this two-week course, we will read the key texts of Luke's Gospel that highlight these themes and discuss their relevance for a contemporary Christian spirituality.

Today our planet, our country, religious life and all other familiar structures are at a critical time in history. We are being invited to build on a heritage of contemplation and action to bring forth an expression of truth that is congruent with our spiritual self. The Leadership Conference of Women Religious has confirmed a loud and clear call claiming that we hold the key to moving our world into the future through our lives of prayer and contemplation. Join us as we view some of the video of the address given by Barbara Marx Hubbard, a futurist from the August 2012 LCWR meeting, reflect, pray and respond to the call to find a way to go into the future together.

HOW TO MAKE A MIRACLE

Tuesday, April 16, 2013 WHITE Fee: $25
5:30 pm - Supper WHITE 6:15 pm - 7:45 pm Presentation
Registration appreciated by April 8.

We are a people of faith who trust and are humbled at the many miracles revealed through scripture. We learn about them in church, bible study, and various other prayer groups that we may be attending. And yet do we REALLY believe miracles are available to us? We pray and petition with sincere hearts and sometimes we struggle in our faith when the desired outcomes seem not to be received. What is the truth? Can we really make a miracle? If so, what does it take to allow this grace to manifest? These concerns will be discussed and a new vision about miracles will be explored.

“HUNGER 101” EDUCATION

Tuesday, April 23, 2013 WHITE Fee: $25
5:30 pm - Supper WHITE 6:15 pm - 7:45 pm Presentation
Registration appreciated by April 15.

Nearly 50 million people in America who struggle with hunger often do so in silence. They live in our communities, they are our neighbors, our co-workers, and our friends, yet their struggle can go unheard. The first step to speaking out is learning about hunger. Take on the role of someone who is having trouble getting enough to eat. Put yourself in the situation of having to get enough food to feed your family for a day with only a limited budget. This hunger simulation teaches us about who is hungry and what barriers exist when trying to access food resources. Attendees will participate in an interactive hunger learning exercise with discussion to follow.
